I thought Lehner was going to push for the number 1 job last season around Christmas/the New Year. That didn't happen. I will put forth the same prediction for this upcoming season. Anderson will start off as the number 1 guy, but Lehner will quickly take over. Last year, Lehner was able to stop the bulk of shots, but he was a victim of letting in soft goals at bad times. That can't happen if you're a number 1. Let's hope we hear news of a new contract sooner rather than later.

I think Anderson will be the starter out of the gate and it will be tough to steal his spot this year. If Lehner does step up into a number 1 role, enough to sideline Anderson, I think that means we trade Andy for some mediocre assets and a serviceable back-up.

However, I think we make playoffs off of Andy's back. Question is what do we do at deadline if that is the case?

I think it will be 50-50. Everyone knows Anderson gets traded this year. He should have been traded last year or the year prior. His value has decreased significantly. We will be lucky to get a 5th rounder for him. Not that he isn't worth more but Ottawa hasn't made good moves lately. Lehner also knows he is taking over, that's why his contract is taking so long to negotiate. There's no hiding the fact that Melnyk's been cheap with salary but Lehner has more on his side to bargain with.

Anderson is on a contract year, he will be on it if he wants to get payed somewhere. The kids in the AHL need to make a push and make the guys realize someone is ready to take over jobs. Not worried about the offense, theres lots of size and skill upfront. Sens fans need to be like Chicago Cub fans and support our team and be thankfull we have one. Cubs fans are die hard and just love being able to go to Wrigley Field and enjoy a game and always have a decent team. I am thankful we have a good young team. Don't cry about people wanting to leave our team. Look what good it did for Heatly and ALfie. Heatley is now slow and not very good, Alfie was pretty much useless in Detroit and also slow and old. Its time to move on and just enjoy our hockey club. Go Sens and get well Brian.

I believe Lehner will play around 30-35 games this year and next year play 55-65 games. Then he'll be ready to play 70 games a year going forward.

Lehner is the most important young player in our system (other than Karlsson) and the team will do everything to develop him properly. I believe he will be a top 5 goalie in the NHL in the next 3-5 years...

The Cubs have a decent team? You sure you're talking about the MLB team?

I agree with the first statement about it ending up a 50-50 split, and that there is a good chance Andy gets traded, but the rest I disagree with.

It's extremely valuable to give a young goaltender someone skilled and experienced to learn from, to ease him into the role. Keeping Andy may have cost us a mediocre asset like a low first or a B level prospect, but the insulation he brought to Lehner and his great presence with the fans over the past three years is far more valuable to the future of the team than some middling piece we would have gotten.

People forget goaltenders aren't worth poop in a trade these days. Luongo, Halak, Bernier and Miller are all good goaltenders who moved for a song the last two years.

If the Sens are out of it by the deadline, Andy gets moved to a contender for a pick.

49 points in 68 games for Alfie so if that is useless to you then I guess Bobby Ryan was useless for the Sens with 48 points in 70 games

Anderson was tending better than bishop when bishop was traded. That's why Bishop was traded. If it can happen to Anderson who was better two seasons ago, then it surely can happen to bishop.

In that trade its a loss for us for sure, but how bad does teams like EDM look for not even trying to up our offer for a 2nd rounder for him

I don't know if the Bishop trade was a huge loss - we brought him in when we were a playoff bubble team and he got some huge wins for us - he got us into the playoffs both seasons he was here and we got a 4th round pick for him.

I'd rather trade a 2nd rounder and get into the playoffs for 2 years and get a 4th back then not make the trade and miss the playoffs either year or both years.

Bishop had a great season last year but overall it was a smart trade for Murray and Bishop did for us exactly what he was supposed to do.

Look at the Blues now - they don't have a decent goalie and it's been their Achilles heal for years.

BM did say he could have had the 2nd round pick, along with their 4th But wanted the player instead ,Conacher was a low risk/high reward gamble .Iam ok with the move ,we lost and TB won .At the time though, most thought it was a steal for us

I think losing Connacher on the waiver wire made it look worse. As you said he was a good pick up at the time of the trade... just didn't pan out and Bishop went through the roof in his development. Crappy trade for the Sens... but I wouldn't say it's a guarantee by any means that he'll enjoy the same success going forward. WIth goalies especially there are a ton of examples of guys who go from hero to zero quickly.
